Angela McIver, Executive Director

Angela joined the Fair Housing Rights Center in Southeastern Pennsylvania as Executive Director in November 2007.  She has over 16 years of human service experience and specializes in developing institutional and organizational networking, community partnerships, and coalitions affecting adults and youths (including the provision of counseling, related support networks, performance analysis, and training). Her former professional roles include: Executive Director of Enough Is Enough, Inc, a mentoring initiative under the auspices of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Local 98; Court Administrative Officer III (Resource Coordinator) for the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas Pretrial Services Division; Administrator for the School District of Philadelphia Office Secondary Education; and Case Manager and Counselor in behavioral healthcare settings at earlier times in her career.

Angela volunteers with several community organizations and will advocate or serve as a broker of human services for anyone who expresses the need. Formerly, she served on the Philadelphia Forensic Task Force and the Philadelphia Ex-Offenders Task Force.  Currently, she serves as Vice Chairperson to the Montgomery County Advisory Council to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Health Committee for City Lights, the Executive Committee for the Black Male Development Symposium, PA Health Department Certified Instructor for Alcohol and Highway Safety School, and Co-Founder of Women Cultivating Women, which serves to strengthen intergeneration relationships among women and empower women and girls from various socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds on social and genders specific issues.

Previously, Angela produced and then hosted a segment on the talk show Dialogues on 900 AM WURD.  At WURD she explored an array of social policy as well as arts/culture/entertainment topics with a variety of actors, athletes, authors, administrators, educators, filmmakers, politicians, and devout listeners. She also produced the two time award winning independent film, Life Isn’t Fair. 

Angela earned a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science from the Pennsylvania State University as well as a Master of Social Services and a Master of Law and Social Policy from Bryn Mawr College. Email

 

 

 

Amy Baumann, Director of Education & Outreach

 

Amy joined the FHRC staff as in October 2006 originally as Test Coordinator and now as Director of Education & Outreach. Amy brings a variety of experience from working with the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, the Feminist Majority and in the offices of two State Senators - Allyson Schwartz of PA and Hannah Gallo of RI.   At the FHRC, she is our primary liaison to the community.  Amy works regularly with consumers and staff in identifying fair housing violations.  She is especially interested in discrimination that disproportionately affects women, including domestic abuse victims and women with children. 

 

Amy's interests include women's public policy issues, especially in relation to strategies to increase women's representation as candidates in Congressional elections.  She has conducted research for numerous Feminist Majority publications, in addition to writing her own thesis entitled "Where are the Women?  An examination of Political Culture and Interstate Variations in Congressional Female Representation."  She is a member of the Montgomery County Women's Center and received training as a Domestic Violence Hotline Counselor.  Amy is an honors graduate of Brown University with a degree in Political Science. Elizabeth Stamm, Director of Enforcement

 

Elizabeth has worked as a member of the FHRC staff in a variety of capacities since 2003. She served as the Education and Outreach Coordinator until 2004 when she left the Center to pursue graduate work. Upon her return to Philadelphia, Elizabeth re-joined the FHRC as Test Coordinator and eventually as Director of Enforcement.  As Director of Enforcement, she counsels individuals on their fair housing rights and assists them in filing formal fair housing complaints.  Elizabeth has been especially instrumental in advocating and securing reasonable accommodations and modifications for people with disabilities.  Finally, she conducts fair housing compliance trainings for housing providers in the region.  She is also the agency's web administrator and spearheaded the design and development of the FHRC's website.  Elizabeth came to the FHRC from the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C.

 

Fluent in Spanish, she is very active in the promotion of immigrant rights and is involved in numerous volunteer efforts with organizations such as No More Deaths, the Latin American Task Force, and Border Awareness Experience.  She is a graduate of Temple University and holds a Masters Degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Chicago.  Email

 

 

 

Tabenah Washington, Test Coordinator

 

Tabenah is a graduate of La Salle University with a major in English. She has over 15 years experience working with Philadelphia’s most vulnerable population, which includes those groups that the Federal Government has identified as protected classes. She has worked with various Philadelphia agencies that provide housing counseling and social services to Philadelphia residents. As a Housing Counselor, she counseled her consumers with on a variety of housing issues such as: tenant/landlord issues, foreclosure preventions, and education and outreach to other agencies, employers, and consumers.  Email
